About this app

The E Numbers app provides information about health risks of E numbers in food based on independent scientific research.

Because E numbers are approved by the European Union, they are also safe… right? Independent scientific research shows otherwise: the safety of some E numbers is questionable and in some cases the risks are even very high.

The purpose of foods is that they give you life and do not take away energy. Processing the chemicals hidden behind E numbers sometimes costs your body more energy than it takes in. In some cases, the risks are so great that you can end up with serious illnesses, such as colon cancer.

Since the 1990s, the French Corinne Gouget has requested and collected the results of research into E numbers worldwide. She has bundled this information into a handy guide. When several studies concluded that an E-number would entail risks, this E-number was labeled as risky or even advised against. Many studies did not reveal any risks simply because they were paid for by food manufacturers.

The Dutch translation of this guide, 'What's in your food?', has been on the market for ten years and is a success. In 2017, the guide was completely revised and updated with results of recent surveys. The guide is also available as a handy Android and iPhone app. This allows you to quickly find out what the risks of the added ingredients are, which are listed on the packaging.

Features of this app:
• Full list of E numbers
• Search function to search by number or name
• Search by number with a numeric keypad, so typing in a busy store is not a problem
• Clear indication of the risks: green is safe, orange is risky and red is not recommended
• Extra information with each E-number
• Comprehensive information on the biggest culprits
• The application works completely offline, so no internet connection is required while using it
• Fully based on independent scientific research; all texts have been specially written for this guide and translated into Dutch

You can download the app for free and get instant access to the E numbers in the E100 series, so you can try the app out. For the rest of the E numbers, from E200 to E1521, we ask for a one-time payment of €3.99 in the app.
